DAY 27: Pray for our leaders

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
1 Timothy 2:1-2Tell Pillar

God's word is still relevant to us today. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 urges us to continually pray for those who have authority over us. Regardless of political party or ideology, as followers of Christ, we should be asking God to grant wisdom and guidance to our elected officials. Prayer can make a difference—even in government! Today pray for a specific elected official (the President, your Governor, Mayor, Senator, or Congressman). Afterwards, contact them or their office and let them know you have prayed for them.

Suggestions

  • Call the Capital Switch Board (1-800-839-5276) and ask for your Congressman or Senator's Washington Office. You can access their email at www.house.gov or www.senate.gov
  • Write a letter to the elected official for whom you have prayed and let them know you have given thanks to God for them.

Adults
Set an example by praying for your elected representative as a family. Don't forget to contact them and inform them you are praying for them.

For Your Journal
Who did you choose to pray for? Where you able to make contact with them? What was the response?
